Autumn is such a special time of the year filled with falling leaves, fun-filled festivals, comfort foods and everything pumpkin. Many families get incredibly creative with the fun of carving those pumpkins, transforming them into spectacular, glowing orb jack o'lanterns. For personal and religious reasons, their is a significant number of families that choose not to carve pumpkins, as jack o'lanterns are closely tied to the celebration of Halloween. Pumpkins are such an integral part of Fall Fun and foods, plus super healthy and loaded with beneficial antioxidants, that it would be fun for every one to enjoy pumpkin carving fun. The Pumpkin Prayer is a devotional activity that brings focus on an inspirational message, appropriate for all ages to enjoy.
Shining Light on the Message of The Pumpkin Prayer
In preparation for pumpkin carving, prepare the following items-
The Pumpkin Prayer (Free Printable)
Cleaned Pumpkin (Medium to Large-Sized)
Newspaper or Placemat (Work Space Area)
Plastic Bag (Contain Insides Removed from Pumpkin)
Waterproof Marker (Draw Outline to Carve)
Serrated Knife (Adult Supervision Required)
Candle or Flashlight (Placed Inside Carved Pumpkin)
We love to save the pumpkin seeds to clean, and roast in the oven with a little butter and just a hint of salt!
Dear God,
As I carve my pumpkin help me say this prayer-
Open my mind so I can learn about You;
(Cut the top of the pumpkin)
Take away all my sin and forgive me for the wrong things I do.
(Clean out the inside)
Open my eyes so Your love I will see;
(Cut the eyes out in heart shapes)
I'm so sorry for turning up my nose to all You've given me.
(Cut a nose in the shape of a cross)
Open my ears so your word I will hear.
(Cut the ears shaped like the Bible)-we did rectangles
Open my mouth so I can tell others You're near.
(cut the mouth in the shape of a fish)
Let Your light shine in all I say and do!
(Place a candle inside and light it)
Amen
