"I wish you would come back," Joey sighed.
It’s an unfortunate sign of the times, our worst kept secret, to state that our children are directly or indirectly exposed to an awareness of some of life’s most difficult situations. True to their innate, curious nature, they may have questions about some of the how's and why's of life.

Life holds so much uncertainty for not only us as adults, for our children as well. Social media delivers so many confusing images to our families and often the message is lost in the midst of the mayhem. Today, children are faced with situations that are sometimes more mature than their young minds. They have questions for which we must provide answers. Always a reader, I prefer the direct connection of life lessons gathered from the pages of a well delivered book. My Yellow Balloon is instrumental in helping kids understand the strength of love and the power of resilience.
Feelings of empathy caused my eyes to deceive me. As my son and I began to read this touching story, I see myself drawn on the pages of the mesmerizing images illustrated by Erwin Madrid. Perpetually the optimist, the color yellow always appeals to my hopeful nature. My Yellow Balloon, the beautiful children's book written by author Tiffany Papageorge, a popular speaker and author, addresses this difficult topic with her inspirational, emotional tale of Joey and his love for his yellow balloon.
My family shared many personal feeling as we discussed the impact of reading my Yellow Balloon. We will certainly find comfort in knowing that out four-year old son has a clear, age-appropriate understanding of ways that losing somethiing or someone valuable to us affects our lives. Addressing issues of loss and separation via the symbolic yellow balloon, the personal experiences of kids, stemming from death, divorce, relocation, deployment, or other situations are less difficult conversations to have with kids. The simple message helps children to understand that life can be challenging, yet there will come a time for brighter moments.
Providing comfort and clarity, My Yellow Balloon can help parents begin a difficult conversation with their children. Loss is very real feeling and occasions without their special loved ones, can be very difficult times for kids.
