My father was a US Army Veteran. Growing up, our respect, appreciation and identification with military life was... just life. The good and the bad, we lived and loved as my father inspired us to do each day. Any military-material reminds me of those time and I am once again fascinated by tales of danger, determination and dog-tagged buddies. These two books, sharing the voices of Veterans are prime examples of the stories that keep the pages turning.
The epic journey of The Price They Paid Enduring Wounds of War
written by author Michael Putzel shares the real life story of veterans that experienced war in Vietnam, just like my own dad. Prepare to gain a renewed respect for the men and women protecting the freedom of our country and the many faces of change these soldiers and their families encounter. Author Excerpt The Price They Paid is the stunning and dramatic true story of a legendary helicopter commander in Vietnam and the flight crews that followed him into the most intensive helicopter warfare ever—and how that brutal experience has changed their lives in the forty years since the war ended.
-Nine million Americans served in the military during the Vietnam era. -2.6 million of them served in Vietnam. -Fewer than a million of those saw combat. -In 2015, 58,300 names were listed on The Wall as killed or still missing. -More than 300,000 were wounded.
Reliable statistics aren't available to tell us how many died later due to exposure to Agent Orange, suicide, traumatic brain injury or other causes probably related but not directly traceable to their combat service. No one knows how many are scarred by PTSD or other mental illness.
The Price They Paid shares the true story of aviators in one helicopter unit and how their harrowing experiences forever changed their lives.
Author Excerpt More than 5 decades ago, the world was brought to the brink of destruction when Russian president Nikita Khrushchev sent 4 submarines toward Cuba. Officers aboard all 4 subs came within a breath of firing nuclear torpedoes and starting World War III. W. Craig Reed was the first author to bring the entire chilling story to light in his book Red November, wherein he revealed how John F. Kennedy trumped Khrushchev by leveraging a new technology invented by the U.S. Navy and deployed worldwide by Reed’s father. In Cold War III, Reed exposes Russian President Vladimir Putin’s plan to dominate world resources, especially in the Arctic, and why the invasion of the Ukraine is only the beginning. Reed also reveals details about another scientific breakthrough created by the U.S. Navy that could defeat Putin and mitigate climate change. Unless world leaders act now, Putin’s plan could plunge the free world into a nightmare scenario of poverty and despair not seen since the Great Depression. I have received The Price They Paid Enduring Wounds of War and Cold War III How the U.S. Navy Can Defeat Putin and Halt Climate Change for the purpose of facilitating this review.
