Here's how to spend a lovely Monday night with family and friends in NYC. Let's begin with the element of surprise, for instance- imagine that the President of the United States of America decided to visit New York City's theater district on the exact same Monday night as your family. Yes, it can happen, and it really did happen to our family. Now, add about 10,000 police officers barricading every street from Battery Park to Central Park, causing every imaginable taxi driver to avoid the city like the plague. Yes, it can happen, and I am very dramatic. That's just setting the scene for a night out with the family to see one absolutely hilarious Off-Broadway musical unlike any show that we've seen before!
Thank you to the team from Mad Libs Live! for the invitation to attend a media preview of Mad Libs Live! for the purpose of facilitating this review.
I remember the fun times that I enjoyed growing up, filling in those Mad Libs activity book stories. Now, imagine that one of those stories came to life on stage in a new, interactive, Off-Broadway musical. That's where we meet Virtuosa, Gogo, Geyser, and Merrily, four teenagers from Blankville Central High School. This unlikely assembly forms a singing group, entering to win the competition title, “Teen Superstars!" The high-energy cast of Mad Libs Live! realizes that their songs are missing words and the audience is called upon to help them to fill in the blanks.
It was an incredibly hilarious evening at Mad Libs Live! This musical is inspired by the very popular fill-in-the-blanks educational game, Mad Libs. The show's script and musical score contain those same fill-in-the-blank moments where the audience writes the show with their unscripted parts of speech drawn from colorful buckets without missing a beat. There is even the opportunity to be in the spotlight, if selected at random by the cast- awesome! The laughs just kept coming with all of the random noun, verb, adverb, and adjective fill-ins submitted by the audience. It's your moment to be a part of the show and it will never be the same show twice! We thoroughly enjoyed this improved musical which is recommended for audiences aged 7 and up who would like to be a part of the show!
See Mad Libs Live! from November 1st for a limited run through January 3rd at New World Stages, 340 West 50th Street, in the heart of the theater district (preferably on a night that the President isn't in town)!
