Play is definitely an important part of every day in our home. Of course, unstructured play time is where open-ended and and imagination rule the day. There are also times when structured play is essential to children's learning and development process. Incorporating basic STEM education into play time provides advanced learning opportunities at home or at school, both indoors and outdoors. We tapped into the affordable resources available from Fat Brain Toys to put their Mission Statement to the test- "Our mission is to enrich families and provide "A Smarter Way to Play" by inspiring creativity and sparking curiosity." We're super excited about creativity and curiosity. Check out our finds for indoor STEM learning activities for the whole family to enjoy. Door Pong
It's ping pong without the table! Attach the clamp to any door frame, turn the dial to adjust the string length, and then swing your paddle to serve up hours of excitement. Coordination, concentration, playful cooperation - Active fun sends your skills soaring!
We've been working on observing motion and Door Pong is fantastic! It's actually "Ping pong without the table!" In addition to learning elementary concepts of the Law of Motion, Door Pong is an ideal activity for refining gross motor skills, coordination, concentration, and cooperative play. Set-up is simple, we clamped Door Pong attached above a door frame (max of 9 inches), adjust the dial to set the tethered ball string to our desired length, then our paddles were ready to go! Door Pong is based upon the of the 2017 Kidventor Competition winner, whom we had the opportunity to meet at New York City's Toy Fair! Play with a friend or on your own to improve hand-eye coordination, concentration abilities, reflexes, and cooperative play.
Morphy
Do you have the insight to morph the most and win? Start with the ball on one peg over one disc. Then, find another disc that’s different by only one attribute – Color, pattern, or center circle size. Whoever connects and collects the most discs wins the game!
Strategically playing Morphy, your goal is to find the longest string of changes. Begin the game with the ball on one peg over one disc. Next, select another disc which is different by only one change in either- color, pattern, or center circle size.
Here's where kids will put pattern recognition skills to the test, using visual discernment skills, pattern recognition, logic, and strategy techniques. Morphy includes a game board, ball, 60 discs, and detailed game rules and instructions. The player with most discs at the end of the game wins!
