Ice cold or room temperature? Drinking water has always been one of my favorite ways to keep myself hydrated. Did you know that when we aren't drinking enough water each day, dehydration is a high risk to our overall wellness. As our bodies become dehydrated we may begin to feel extreme thirst, exhaustion, weakness, dizziness, or lightheaded, we may also experience a drop in blood pressure, or a decrease in urination. I've learned that the effects of dehydration may occur gradually, if you are not actively monitoring your fluid intake levels. Keep this thought in mind, a commonly referenced survival rule of three- if in extreme circumstances, it is estimated that we can survive 3 minutes without air, 3 weeks without food, 3 hours without shelter, and 3 days without water. Why unnecessarily test your limits? Keep water on the forefront of your thoughts. World Water Day is observed annually on March 22nd, each year. What is World Water Day?


"World Water Day is on 22 March every year. It is an annual United Nations Observance, started in 1993, that celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2 billion people currently living without access to safe water. A core focus of World Water Day is to inspire action towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030."

We as a society greatly depend on groundwater located underground in aquifers, or geological formations of rocks, sands and gravel containing water. We use this as drinking water, for sanitation systems, farming, industry, and ecosystems. As we have found increasing pollution of groundwater, the need for "exploring, protecting and sustainably using groundwater will be central to surviving and adapting to climate change and meeting the needs of a growing population". -UN Water

How much water should you drink each day?

The daily recommendation of drinking four-to-six cups of water is a general guideline for healthy people. Drinking adequate water serves many functions in our bodies, including-

- carrying nutrients and oxygen to cells
- flushing bacteria from bladder
- supporting digestion
- preventing constipation
- normalizing blood pressure
- stabilizing heartbeats
- cushioning joints
- protecting organs and tissues
- regulating body temperature
- maintaining electrolyte (sodium) balance
