Storytelling is a powerful way to transport and transform our worlds, however, there is a strong level of connection from a true story based on real life events. An ancient form of communication, storytelling builds upon words and images to envision times, places, spaces, and experiences in the minds of others. Storytelling often has the power to create emotional responses and reactions. We use storytelling as a journey used to entertain, to inform, or to educate, often combining these three approaches for maximum impact. Many times I wonder about my life (thanks to Lin Manuel Miranda's Hamilton), speculating as to "who tells your story?" Recently we were privileged to have the opportunity to preview the upcoming movie, Paul's Promise. Based upon the lifechanging power of a promise, this is a story that needs to be shared.

The Lifechanging Power of a Promise
Taking us back in time to the divisive times of the pain and power of the Civil Rights movement, Paul’s Promise shares the inspirational story of Paul Holderfield. In a world before allyship was common practice, a deathbed promise transformed the heart of a man living his life with prejudiced beliefs. Finding time to uncomfortably make amends with a childhood friends serves as the foundation for one of the first integrated churches in the south."Set in the peak of the 1960s Civil Rights movement, “Paul's Promise” is the inspiring true story of Paul Holderfield, former racist firefighter-turned-pastor who started one of the first integrated churches in the American South. It’s one man’s journey to hope and healing during a troubled time in our Nation’s history that resulted in one man’s decision to serve God and stand up to injustice - a story that continues to make a huge impact on the community to this day."
Continuing to be triggered by treacherous feelings stemming from my extreme reactions from the truths of racial injustice, I was emotional as I watched Paul's Promise. Delicately addressed, the culture fueling racism in America is established as Paul's uncomfortable past opening the door for his future of servitude. Written by Vitya Stevens, directed by Matthew Reithmayr, and produced by Ryan O'Quinn, Michael Davis, Heather O'Quinn, and Taylor Cole, Paul's Promise features-
- Ryan O'Quinn
- Linda Purl
- Shari Rigby
- Nancy Stafford
- Josef Cannon
- Dean Cain
