Whenever video gaming against me, it will almost always result in a guaranteed win for the other player. Playing board games is a different story, however, video games are just not where where I shine. During my childhood, our family was not very interested in playing video games as individuals or as a family. We were more likely to play board games to entertain ourselves as well as to stir up a little friendly competition. With a healthy balance of video games, board games, and physical activity through family game time should be a nurturing and inclusive opportunity to balance risks and rewards. As each player brings their own unique strengths and challenges, playing together helps build skills, encourage creativity, and promotes positive social interactions. Each of these abilities contribute to our children developing social skills such as problem-solving, confidence, and resilience. Sometimes it may be needed to use gaming as personal time to reduce stress and anxiety and family-friendly video games can positively impact children’s self-confidence in several key ways when family time and gaming time are used to boost social skills.
